MMA Regional Pick of the Week: Oktagon 78
Oktagon 78 Heavyweight Fight: Kasim Aras vs Simon Biyong
Card Start Time: Saturday (10/18), 12:00pm EST (oktagon.tv)
For our favorite play of the week over in Germany Saturday, I’m digging an underdog at heavyweight.
There’s lots of reason to like Kasim Aras in this fight. For one, he’s a grinder, which is a huge advantage when you’re talking about big guys on the regional scene. He’s good at controlling the realm of the fight and has above average takedown stuff. On top of that, he does a good job at closing the range, which will help him against him much taller opponent.
Simon Biyong does have some reach on him, but his big disadvantage will be the overall size. Biyong has spent the bulk of his career down at 205lbs. Even worse, at light heavyweight he was often held against the cage and taken down. Antonio Carlos Jr. dominated him in the grappling and he spent a bulk of his career at 185lbs. Now we’ll get someone nearly 100lbs heavier looking to do the same thing.
And to make matters even better, we’ll get some dog-money on it.
