There’s no rivalry quite like the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs, and it should start being even more contentious now that the Habs are back on the come-up. And if the reconfigured Maple Leafs are going to make any noise this season, they need a bounce-back year from their captain, Auston Matthews.
You know you’re elite when a 33-goal season is a down year. But Matthews has a pattern of following an off-year with a massive, 60+ goal season. And there’s no better time to start his journey to 60 than in Game 1.
Calgary Flames vs Edmonton Oilers

Speaking of rivalries, another edition of the Battle of Alberta goes down tomorrow night as well, as the Calgary Flames visit their in-province rivals, the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers will be looking to make their third straight trip to the Stanley Cup Finals this season, as they strive to finally lift the Cup.
The sport’s best player, Edmonton’s Connor McDavid, has vowed to score more goals this season, aiming to get in the 60-goal range once more. There’s no reason to doubt a player with his skill level. Look for him to get off to a hot start, starting tomorrow.
