After an explosive UFC 320 in Las Vegas to kick off the month, the UFC octagon continues its world tour this Saturday, landing in the Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. While we lost half of the main event, the UFC found a viable replacement to keep popular native son Charles Olveira atop the card. For my MMA Underdog Pick of the Week: UFC Rio, I’m going with the live dog in the main event. Let’s get it on, c’mon!

MMA Underdog Pick of the Week: UFC Rio
UFC FIGHT NIGHT: OLIVEIRA VS GAMROT (AKA UFC RIO)
Start Time: 4:00 PM EST – (ESPN+)
As mentioned above, it was important for the UFC to keep Charles Olveira on this card in Brazil, and they found a tough opponent, Mateusz Gamrot, to step in. However, taking a fight on short notice – especially a five-round main event one on enemy turf – isn’t a good path to victory.
And beating Oliveira on home soil has only been a dream thus far, as he’s undefeated throughout his lengthy career in Brazil, including six UFC fights in the country. But it’s not just the ‘home field advantage’ in Oliveira’s favor here. He’s a more dangerous striker than Gamrot and is also more effective on the ground, so the Polish fighter will have to be mindful of his positioning and technique, regardless of where the fight takes place. I think ‘Do Bronxs’ can catch him.
