First, the good news: the Miami Dolphins picked up their first win of the season on Monday night, beating the New York Jets 27-21 on Monday Night Football. Now, the bad news: Miami’s star wide receiver Tyreek Hill suffered a gruesome injury and appears to be gone for the season.
The injury happened in the third quarter as Hill caught a 10-yard pass from Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. As the five-time All-Pro was tackled out of bounds, his left leg got twisted up under him, dislocating his knee.
“We don’t know the extent of the injury,” Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told WSVN 7News. “Doctors have told me he dislocated his knee, which I think was apparent for everyone who watched the horrific play. But what that means, and the extent of the damage, and whether he’ll need surgery, to what extent, all of that we should find out within the next couple hours.”
Hill will remain in the hospital overnight as doctors conduct further tests to assess the extent of the damage.
“Are there any torn ligaments, is there torn cartilage, are there any broken bones, to check on the blood flow, any god forbid nerve damage,” Rosenhaus said. “All of this is getting checked out.”
Despite the horrific nature of the injury and the pain he surely was in, Hill remained upbeat, joking with teammates and clapping to the crowd as he was wheeled off the field.
“He was probably in the best spirits of any player that I’ve ever seen (have) such a terrible experience,” Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel reported. “He immediately had wide eyes and was talking, ‘I’m good, just make sure the guys get this win.’ He was focused on the team.”
Regardless of the extent of the damage, Hill’s season is over. And, for all intents and purposes, so is Miami’s.
Degenerate Spin: A terrible blow to Hill and the Dolphins. If you have Hill on your fantasy team, or are looking for a wide receiver, Jaylen Waddle moves up to the #1 option for the Dolphins.
