San Diego Padres vs Chicago Cubs
Start Time: 3:00 PM EST
For the first time since 2020, when they got swept in the Wild Card round by the Miami Marlins, the Chicago Cubs are back in the playoffs. They’ll be facing the San Diego Padres in this best-of-three opening round, as the Padres make their first back-to-back playoff appearance since 2005 and 2006.
These teams have played once before in the postseason, back in 1984, a series I remember watching, because I’m as old as dirt, with the Padres winning three straight games to win the best-of-five series that year. As for this year’s regular season, the teams split their season series 3-3.
The visiting Padres probably have a slight advantage in the pitching matchup tomrorow, with Nick Pivetta facing off against Matthew Boyd. But I think the key factor to this game is where it is being played – Chicago’s Wrigley Field. The Cubs were a stellar 50-31 at home this season, while the Padres were only 38-43 away from San Diego.
Chicago on the moneyline is my best bet for Tuesday.
