Things are not going well in Charm City. The city’s football team, the Baltimore Ravens, has dropped to 1-3 on the season after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. And now franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson is injured, leaving today’s game early with a bum hamstring.
Jackson was having a miserable game on Sunday, throwing an interception and fumbling the ball before exiting in the third quarter with a right hamstring injury after being sacked by George Karlaftis. The two-time NFL MVP remained on the bench for the rest of the game.
“There’s nothing that looks like it’s season-ending by any stretch for anybody,” Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh said after the game regarding Jackson and his fellow fallen teammates (more on that in a bit).
“Praying for Lamar,” Baltimore safety Kyle Hamilton added. “I don’t know how serious it is, but we’ll see.”
It wasn’t just Jackson who left the Chiefs game worse for wear, as four other starters had their days ended early as well: middle linebacker Roquan Smith, cornerbacks Marlon Humphrey and Nate Wiggins, and offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley. Plus, the team was already missing four starters from their defense heading into the game.
So it probably comes as no surprise that the team is sitting at 1-3, only the second time in franchise history they’ve had that mark after four games.
“The three losses are against probably three of the top teams in the league, for sure,” Harbaugh told reporters.”That’s just the hand we’ve been dealt, but it doesn’t really matter. We’ve got to win the next game. Then, once you win the next game, then you have a chance to start stacking some wins. That’s what we’ve got to do big-picture-wise.”
Degenerate Spin: Well, this is certainly a horrible, terrible, no-good start to the season for one of the preseason Super Bowl favorites. The Ravens are hosting the Houston Texans in Week 5, who are also 1-3 but a far worse team than Baltimore. The odds for this game have been pulled off the boards.
