New York Jets at Miami Dolphins Preview and Predictions

Monday Night Football brings us a double header this week, with start times staggered by one hour. The first of the two games to kick off is the New York Jets at the Miami Dolphins in a battle of two 0-3 teams with big question marks around each of them. Kickoff is set for 7:15 PM ET on ESPN. The Bengals at Broncos will follow with an 8:15 PM ET kick on ABC. Let’s dive in, preview, and try to predict this Jets at Dolphins game on Monday Night Football.

The Jets started the season in a shootout with the Pittsburgh Steelers and came close to snagging a victory in Week 1. Week 2, they went up against the juggernaut Buffalo Bills and got beaten down and beaten up. Quarterback Justin Fields left the game with a concussion. Fields was unable to play Week 3, but Tyrod Taylor came in and led another close game as the Jets almost upset the Buccaneers.

Miami met the wrath of the Daniel Jones rebirth in Week 1, and got licked. In Week 2, they hung with the New England Patriots on the road, but ultimately lost in the closing seconds. Last week, they took the field on Thursday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills and really held their own more than most thought they might. In the end, it was a 10-point loss to Buffalo, but a good showing nonetheless. Mike McDaniel’s seat seems to be one of the hottest in the NFL right now.

New York Jets at Miami Dolphins Preview and Predictions

De’Von Achane Over 99.5 Rushing + Receiving Yards (-110)

De’Von Achane is a big-time weapon for the Miami Dolphins. He’s a do-it-all running back who performs well in the rushing game and the receiving game. Against the Bills and the Jets’ tough defenses, they were able to hold Achane under this number. But against the Patriots’ defense, Achane ate big time. I expect this game to look a lot more like that game. He had 92 yards receiving on eight catches, and another 30 on the ground.

Against the Jets in Week 18 last year, he had 121 yards on the ground alone, and hit this number in two of the last three games of the year. Last week, the Jets gave up 99 combined yards to Bucky Irving. In Week 2, James Cook ran for 132 yards on them, while Josh Allen added another 59. Achane is the biggest key to keeping Miami in this game.

New York Jets +3 (-120)

I cannot think of anything I’ve seen through three weeks that makes me think I should bet on the Miami Dolphins. We saw their best game last week, and it wasn’t even close to enough against the Buffalo Bills. The Dolphins are on edge; everyone is playing for their jobs and positions right now. The Jets have come close to that first win twice, and you can tell they are having fun with head coach Aaron Glenn. Justin Fields is healed up and ready to get back at it. I think the Jets are the more carefree and better team. It’ll be a close one, but the Jets keep it within a field goal. I think they’ll be the outright winners in this one.
