In a move that was rumored as early as Week 2, the New York Giants look ready to pull the plug on the Russell Wilson as their starting quarterback experiment. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the team plans to bench the veteran and install rookie Jaxson Dart at quarterback this Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
As mentioned, since the Giants are a New York team, the calls to replace Wilson with Dart started as early as the lead-up to Week 2, after Wilson had a poor performance in the team’s opener. Well, Wilson – and the team – haven’t improved in the weeks that have followed, losing all three games they’ve played this season, with Wilson rating near the bottom of the league in quarterback performance.
Things got ugly this past weekend, with Wilson having a rough game and subsequently getting booed by the home fans. On the flipside, the crowd roared when Dart came in to play a snap.
While the move hasn’t been made official yet, Giants’ head coach Brian Daboll refused to pour water on the fire on Monday, simply stating that the team was “evaluating everything” regarding their starting quarterback.
Dart has played six snaps in total this season, but was impressive in the preseason, allowing him to jump veteran Jameis Winston on the depth chart.
“Well, we put him in the game the last two weeks,” Daboll said about Dart. “So we wouldn’t put anyone in the game we don’t feel confident with.”
Degenerate Spin: Those with Russell Wilson on your fantasy team, I guess you should have known better. Now go out and grab Jaxson Dart. On the betting end, the Giants will be a tough team to trust with an unproven rookie at the helm, so they’ll be a fade until further notice.
