MYBOOKIE BONUS

Now is a good time to remind you to bet these teams individually on the moneyline, and I like to bet them with the points as well. If you did this last week, it was hugely successful. If they are good enough to pull the upset, it makes a great case for taking them with the points as well.

College Football Week 5 Best Bets: Upset Parlay

Oklahoma State Cowboys (+900)

Go big or go home. Let’s kick it off with our big dog barking. Things are going to look a little different in Stillwater, Oklahoma, this weekend. After 21 seasons as the head coach, Mike Gundy has been relieved of his duties after a 1-2 start. Offensive coordinator Doug Meacham will step up and take over the interim job. Rally the troops, win one for the Gipper, a spike game, whatever you want to call it, teams get up for games after a coach is fired. It’s something we’ve seen throughout history, and this is a great spot for this Cowboys team to get up.

They get to host this game, and the pressure is somewhat off the players after Gundy’s axing. Oklahoma State has traditionally played Baylor well. Winning 20 of the last 29 matchups and 13 of the last 15 in Stillwater. Oklahoma State is a team that’s constantly in or around the top 25, ranking as high as #13 in last year’s AP Poll. Point being, this isn’t as horrible a team as their recent records and games would suggest.

Baylor’s defense is questionable at best and very injured. They are allowing nearly 30 points per game and over 180 rushing yards per game on average. Rushing the ball has been one of the few strengths for this Cowboys team, which has averaged 152 yards per game on the ground. This is the perfect get-up spot for Oklahoma State, against the perfect opponent. Give me the Cowboys to bring home the longshot part of our upset parlay.

UCF Golden Knights (+195)

Last week I tried to fade Scott Frost and company against Bill Belichick, and boy, was I wrong. This week, I’m jumping on the Golden Knights bandwagon. Big 12 play takes them up to Manhattan, Kansas, to face a Kansas State team that, well, isn’t very good. They came into the season with huge expectations and have fallen flat on their face. From the loss in Ireland to Avery Johnson’s family having it out, to needing a last-minute drive to beat North Dakota. Things haven’t gone well for the Wildcats.

This line is a bit puzzling, as maybe Kansas State is still living off some of that preseason hype. UCF is 3-0, and while they haven’t beaten anyone of high competition, they’ve taken care of the business in front of them. Tayven Johnson has looked the part as the dual-threat quarterback Scott Frost loves to have.

The Golden Knights announced Monday the tragic loss of their offensive line coach, Shawn Clark, at the young age of 50. Talk about motivation for a game, I fully expect this team to get up and play nast,y shoving the ball down the Wildcats’ throats in honor of Clark. I’ve seen enough from both of these teams to see which direction each program is heading. I’ll dare say the wrong team is favored in this one.

Auburn Tigers (+200)

For the third and final leg of this Week 5 upset parlay, we’ll leave the Big 12 and venture into SEC country. The Auburn Tigers are coming off a tough loss at Oklahoma, after trying to pull off the upset in Norman. It’s back on the road this week, and into one of the toughest places to play, home of College Football’s 12th man, Kyle Field. Last season, when these two teams met, Auburn took the Aggies down in quadruple overtime, a game Texas A&M is looking to avenge.

These teams have met at Kyle Field six times since A&M joined the SEC Auburn is 4-2 on the road over the Aggies. The Tigers’ star dual-threat quarterback, Jackson Arnold, is a Texas native, one of the 2023 class’s top recruits from the state. He returns to his home state looking to put on a show. Auburn’s rush defense ranks second in the SEC, only trailing LSU.

This should be a good, tough, SEC-style football game. If Hugh Freeze can rally the troops after the Oklahoma loss last week and catch the Aggies asleep at the wheel early off the bye and a huge win over Notre Dame. His stars will need to show up. Quarterback Jackson Arnold and his arguably best in the country wide receiver duo of Cam Coleman and Eric Singleton. Along with running back Jeremiah Cobb and future NFL Draft star edge rusher Keldric Faulk. This Tigers team has superb talent and the ability to pull off this upset.
