We kicked off the weekend right with a sweep on our first inning plays. Some of that was thanks to Bubba Chandler, who showed off why he was such a highly touted prospect going into this year. We’ll look for a couple more gems like that for our NRFI bets for September 21.
Every team is in action, which gives us plenty to look at for our NRFI and YRFI props for September 21. Come check out what we have cooked up for this slate of games.

MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 21
New York Yankees vs. Baltimore Orioles
First Pitch – 1:35 pm EST
Camden Yards – Baltimore, MD
Broadcast – MLB TV
Playing an NRFI against the Yankees takes a little bit of faith. After all, they are the best offensive team in the league in a number of different metrics. Despite that, I like the chances that they throw up a goose egg in the first here. Kyle Bradish will be on the bump for the Orioles and he has been phenomenal since returning from Tommy John. He has just four starts this year, but has yet to allowed more than two runs in an outing. He’s allowed just one in back-to-back starts and has 30 strikeouts in 22.0 innings. If anyone is going to keep these Yankees at bay late in the season, it just might be him.
The bottom of the first should be much less of a sweat. Not because we’re getting a better pitcher, but because the Orioles aren’t much of an offensive threat. In the first three games of this series with the Yankees, they’ve managed only five total runs (or 1.67 runs per game). That’s par for the course being that they rank 23rd in the league in runs scored. They’re also worse in the first inning, where they rank 26th in the league. Cam Schlittler should be plenty good to keep them quiet. He’s held four of his last six opponents to one run or fewer – with only some big hitting teams upsetting that trend.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 21: No (-120)
Cleveland Guardians vs. Minnesota Twins
First Pitch – 2:10 pm EST
Target Field – Minneapolis, MN
Broadcast – MLB TV
There may not be a team hotter than Cleveland right now. They’ve won ten straight and are threatening to take the AL Central away from the Tigers. Despite all those wins recently, they still have some ugly numbers when it comes to run scoring this year. They are currently one of just four teams in the majors with less than 4.00 runs per game. They are also 25th in the majors when it comes to scoring in the first inning. Those factors should help Simeon Woods Richardson. His surface numbers may not blow anyone away, but he is coming off some great starts lately. Over his last three outings, he’s posted a 2.81 ERA. In his last start, he held the Yankees scoreless over 6.0 innings – picking up 11 strikeouts in the process.
On the other side of things, the Twins have not been hot. In fact, in the first three games of this series, they have managed only two runs. That includes being shut out in each of the last two games. Things certainly don’t get easier with Joey Cantillo on the bump. In his last five starts, he’s allowed just four total runs. That’s a 1.21 ERA in that span. Not only that, he’s been racking up the strikeouts. He has 32 in his last 29.2 innings, which should help him close this one out for us.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 21: No (-110)
