Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will be without one of his favorite targets once again tomorrow as the team faces the New York Jets in New Jersey. Second-year wide receiver Xavier Worthy, injured in a collision with teammate Travis Kelce in Week 1, will be out of action again tomorrow night.
Worthy dislocated his right shoulder when running into Kelce, and while he was running routes in practice this week, he will not be traveling with the team to East Rutherford.
“I ran into one of my guys and offed him out of the game; I literally took one of my players out,” Kelce said on his podcast about the accident. “That’s one of the most frustrating parts, and it’s hard to get your juices back going knowing you just hurt a guy.”
“I’m supposed to be running my route at depth for Worthy, so it’s frustrating for me,” Kelce explained. “I was trying to kind of set up my guy to be able to get in a position, and it all just happened pretty quick. And I just got to be better, man. I’m 13 years in the league. There’s no excuse for me running into my own guys like that. Worthy has his guy beat and we’re out the gate, and that game starts completely different.”
Worthy was Mahomes’ top target after Kelce last season, and is part of a long list of receivers out of action for the winless team.
Degenerate Spin: The good news – the Chiefs are only playing the Giants this week. KC is listed as a 6.5-point favorite, a play that I’m in on. On the fantasy side of things, Hollywood Brown, Tyquan Thornton, and JuJu Smith-Schuster will be getting extra snaps with Worthy out.
