Baltimore Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson isn’t just good at avoiding rushing defenders – he also has evaded the long arm of the NFL’s league office. The league announced today that Jackson won’t be disciplined for pushing a Buffalo fan during the Ravens’ deflating 41-40 defeat at the hands of the Bills this past Sunday.
“The matter has been addressed by the club and there is no further action from the league,” today’s statement from NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy read. So any concerns that Jackson might be absent from the field this coming week have been quelled.
The incident in question occurred late in the third quarter on Sunday, as Jackson and teammate DeAndre Hopkins celebrated a touchdown near the front row at Buffalo’s Highmark Stadium. A Bills fan hit both players on the helmets, which got him pushed backwards by a retaliating Jackson.
“Our player’s safety is of the utmost importance,” a Ravens official told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. “We have spoken to Lamar, who understands the impact of the situation, about the incident.
“While we will keep internal matters private, we have implemented additional security protocols — both at home and on the road — to better protect our players and handle negative fan interactions moving forward.”
The fan has been “indefinitely banned from Bills and NFL stadiums,” and Jackson has apologized.
Degenerate Spin: Not that there was really any concern that Jackson might get suspended over the incident, but you never know with the league’s announced new crackdown on incidents of poor sportsmanship. Jackson fantasy owners, Baltimore bettors, and Ravens fans can breathe easy now.
