MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 9

Kansas City Royals vs. Cleveland Guardians

First Pitch – 6:40 pm EST
Progressive Field – Cleveland, OH
Broadcast – MLB TV

Kicking off our NRFI action at the plate on Tuesday is the Royals. They’ve becomes one of the best teams to chase an NRFI on due to just how bad they are at the plate. Not only do they rank in the bottom third of the league when it comes to scoring in the first inning, but they are one of just four teams that are not averaging at least 4.00 runs per game. That won’t get much easier with Joey Cantillo on the bump. He’s been solid over his last three starts, allowing just one earned run in each of the three games – posting a 1.62 ERA in that span.

Closing out the NRFI should actually be easier than the top of the first. The Guardians are another of the four teams who have yet to reach the 4.00 runs per game mark on the year. Additonally, they rank all the way down at 25th in terms of first inning scoring. Going into Monday’s action, they were 3-1 in their last four, but had only scored 14 runs in the process (or 3.50 per game). Now they get Noah Cameron and his 3.03 ERA looking to make their lives miserable. He’s had a run of bad luck in his last couple starts, but should still be good enough to give us that clean first frame.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 9: No (-135)

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Texas Rangers

First Pitch – 8:05 pm EST
Globe Life Field – Arlington, TX
Broadcast – MLB TV

While we got a pair of rough hitting teams in our first selection, we have no such thing with the Brewers. They rank 2nd in run scoring on the season, but it’s the first inning where they struggle. Despite their potent offense, they rank 19th in the league in first inning scoring. That’s good news for us here as Jack Leiter looks to keep them quiet early. He’s been on a tear lately with just four earned runs allowed over his last three starts. He’s rocking a 1.89 ERA over that span and has fanned 25 batters in just 19.0 innings. That’s the kind of run we want on our side early here.

Texas brings us a return of the struggling bats. They rank in the bottom third of the league in both first inning runs and overall run scoring. Going into Monday’s action, they had been ice cold as well. They scored just eight runs over the last four games prior (2.00 runs per game). Now Freddy Peralta and his 2.50 ERA come to town. He hasn’t allowed an earned run since August 5th, and I hardly think the spot for that to go awry will be here.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 9: No (TBD)
