MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 6

Chicago White Sox vs. Detroit Tigers

First Pitch – 6:10 pm EST
Comerica Park – Detroit, MI
Broadcast – MLB TV

As I mentioned up top, this was the series the spoiled our perfect day on Friday. However, we’re going to the well once again for a couple of reasons. For one, the White Sox, despite their recent success, have not been a good hitting team this year. They rank in the bottom five of runs score with barely more than 4.00 per game. That can’t get any easier with reigning Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal on the bump. He has a 2.18 ERA on the year and has only allowed one earned run in his last three starts to go along wth 25 strikeouts.

The bottom of the inning doesn’t have a Cy Young winner on the mound, but it does have someone with a better ERA. You may have missed it, but Martin Perez is putting up numbers right now. Martin Perez has posted a 2.16 ERA for the White Sox and was one of the very best pitchers in the league in the month of August. In the month, he posted a 1.25 ERA and struck out 21 in 21.1 innings. While the Tigers are a tough hitting team, they haven’t been as good in the first inning. They rank outside the top ten in that category, which gives me the confidence I need in Martin to get us out of the first frame.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 6: No (-150)

Seattle Mariners vs. Atlanta Braves

First Pitch – 7:15 pm EST
Truist Park – Atlanta, GA
Broadcast – MLB TV

The Braves and Mariners gave us the NRFI we were looking for on Friday and it wasn’t much of a surprise. The Mariners have been pretty bad at the plate lately. They’ve scored just 16 runs in their last five games (which comes out to 3.2 runs per game). Now, rookie sensation, Hurston Waldrep gets the ball to try to extend their misery. He’s carrying a 1.01 ERA through six appearances and hasn’t allowed more than a single earned run in a game yet this year. It doesn’t feel like the current iteration of the Mariners have the firepower to change that.

The bottom of the inning is more of the same. The Braves bats haven’t been good lately – or this whole year for that matter. They rank in the bottom third of the league when it comes to first inning scoring and they’ve put up just 21 runs in their last five games. However, the bulk of those runs have come late in the game. They had scored just once going into the 8th inning last night when they put up a three-spot. Bryce Miller should be able to keep them in check for three outs. He’s settled in lately and looked solid against Cleveland last time out.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 6: No (-110)
