Week 1 of the 2025 season treats us to an NFC North showdown between two of the league’s oldest franchises. Our Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers Preview and Predictions this week will get you ready for what will be a hard-fought, gritty matchup between division rivals. Both of these teams finished in the mix for a divisional title last year. They would love nothing more than to get this season started with a divisional win.
The Lions have taken home the NFC North crown in each of their last two seasons. Detroit held off a hard charging Minnesota Vikings squad to finish 15-2 on the year. Unfortunately, they were unable to hold off the Washington Commanders to advance past the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Once again, Jared Goff leads a star-studded offense poised to light up the scoreboard.
Green Bay finished last season with an 11-6 record ending up third overall in the North. The Packers made it into the playoffs, but ran into the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card and did not make it to the next round. The Pack has stacked its defense by acquiring Micah Parsons from the Dallas Cowboys hoping to shut down the potent offenses in the NFC North.

Detroit +2 (-110 via BETMGM)
It seems the addition of Parsons has caused bettors to back the Pack causing the line to shift in favor of Green Bay. However, Detroit has beaten the Packers in four of their last five meetings. If you zoom out a little, that number increases to six of the last seven. The Lions came in as underdogs only once last year during the regular season and walked away with an outright win in that contest.

The case for the Lions strengthens here given the fact that Detroit is 15-3 against the NFC North over the last three seasons. On top of that, the Lions have won their season opener for the last two seasons.
Micah Parsons Over 1.5 Tackles (+160 via DRAFTKINGS)
Parsons enters this season averaging 2.7 solo tackles per game over his career. Last season, the doggish defensive end averaged 2.3 tackles per game. He cashed this prop in 10 of his 13 appearances last season.
Word is that Parsons will see action, but not too much action in his Green Bay debut. That certainly explains the plus money on this prop. However, he is lethal whenever he’s on the field and it won’t take much for him to get involved enough to make this bet a winner.
