The first NFC East matchup of the season was a thriller on Thursday night between the Eagles and Cowboys. I expect to be in for another one when the other two teams from the fierce division do battle at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM ET on Fox. Let’s break down this New York Giants at Washington Commanders preview and prediction.
There may not be a seat hotter in the NFL than Brian Daboll’s coming into 2025. If the Giants don’t turn things around, he could very quickly be the first coach fired in 2025. He’s brought in Russell Wilson to be the Week 1 starter as Jaxson Dart waits in the wings to take over the job. They got, in my opinion, the best player in the NFL Draft with the third overall pick, Penn State’s edge rusher Abdul Carter.
Washington went from zero to hero in 2024. Going from one of the worst teams in 2023 to the NFC Championship game in 2024. Jayden Daniels became an overnight superstar at quarterback. The team was able to work out a contract extension and bring back Terry McLaurin. Debo Samuel was added to the mix, while Brian Robinson was surprisingly traded away. Austin Ekeler is the team’s starter for Week 1 at running back.
New York Giants at Washington Commanders Preview and Predictions
Malik Nabers Over 75.5 Receiving Yards (-120)
If you told me I could only bet on one prop this weekend, this is the one I’m taking. Malik Nabers showed out as a rookie. He was impressive each and every time he touched the ball, and that was with the likes of Tommy DeVito and other Giants quarterbacks throwing him the ball. Now, he gets Russell Wilson to play catch with? Wilson isn’t what he once was, but he’s a massive upgrade from Drew Lock and Tommy Cutlets.
Malik Nabers best plays vs WAS last year. 10 catches, 127 yards and a TD.

Nabers flew past this number in three of his first four games of his career. He battled some injuries, but down the stretch, he crossed the threshold in three of his last five games. In the Week 2 matchup against the Washington Commanders, Nabers caught the ball 10 times on 18 targets for 127 yards. He broke out in year one, but look for him to build on that with a competent quarterback. I’m not looking too deep into his injury reports this week. If he plays, which it looks like he will. He’ll be a star.
New York Giants +6.5 (-115)
We already saw in that first NFC East game, these teams are always going to show up strong when they play each other. Both games last year, even when New York was a bad team and Washington a good one, were within five points. Washington hasn’t beaten the Giants by more than five points in six straight games dating back to December 4th of 2022. Only once in the last 12 matchups have they won over New York by more than six points. All signs point to the Giants being scrappy in this one.
