MMA Regional Pick of the Week: Fury FC 109
Fury FC Welterweight Fight: Richard Myol vs Irakli Kuchukhidze
Card Start Time: Sunday (9/7), 2:00pm EST (UFC Fight Pass)
In regional fights, such as this one, the guy with the better record and the more recent postitive results is often the one that winds up the favorite. Kuchukhidze is coming off back to back losses, and his 4-2 record hardly inspires confidence. However, when you look at the film on these two, it would look like the Georgian underdog has the advantages here.
The loss that Kuckukhidze is coming off of is against the highly touted Baysangur Susurkaev. In that fight, he had him movements in the grappling, but ultimately, the counters tired him out. Should his cardio have been a touch better, that would have been a close fight. Luckily for him, his opponent in this one is not going to make him work in the clinch.
Mayol is the type of guy who wants to stand and trade, and he certainly won’t get that fight. The question for him is whether or not he can survive the grappling storm. I have no reason to believe that he can and at 2-to-1 money, I’ll take my chances on the underdog.
