On Thursday, we had an play with another switch at pitcher just before game time. However, unlike the one that spoiled our day on Wednesday, we still cashed this one. Now we look to gain some stability for our NRFI bets for September 5.
Everybody is back in action on Friday and that’ll help our NRFI and YRFI props for September 5. Come check out what we have cooked up for this slate of games.

MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 5
Chicago White Sox vs. Detroit Tigers
First Pitch – 6:40 pm EST
Comerica Park – Detroit, MI
Broadcast – MLB TV
We cashed on the NRFI for the White Sox and the Twins on Thursday. One of the reasons we originally liked that one is that Shane Smith would be on the bump for the White Sox. They pulled him from the start at the last second and wound up going with Fraser Ellard. Now we get Smith for real along with his 3.81 ERA. He looked great in August posting a 2.67 ERA in the month. That includes 5.0 scoreless innings against this very same Tigers team on August 13th. He should be able to get us through an early three out to keep the Tigers off the board in this one.
The other half of the inning is likely going to be even easier for the NRFI to cash. The White Sox continue to be one of the very worst teams in the league when it comes to scoring runs. They are one of five teams that have not reached the 4.00 runs per game mark. That’s likely not going to get much easier with Jack Flaherty toeing the rubber. While his surface stats leave a bit to be desired, he’s kept two of his last three opponents to one run or less. If he’s going to keep that rolling, the White Sox are the team to do it against.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 5: No (-135)
Seattle Mariners vs. Atlanta Braves
First Pitch – 7:15 pm EST
Truist Park – Atlanta, Braves
Broadcast – MLB TV
Seattle gets first hacks in this one and they’ve been a pretty average team when it comes to their offense. They have been right around the middle of the pack when it comes to scoring in the first inning and across the game in general. Now they’ll have to deal with Chris Sale, who has been outstanding. After returning from a broken rib, he held the Phillies to just one run in 6.0 innings. Not only did he have them off the board for most of the start, but he also fanned nine batters and held them to just three hits. The Mariners should have even a harder time getting things going.
The Braves, meanwhile, are not a middle of the pack team when it comes to scoring. They rank in the bottom third of the year when it comes to scoring in the first inning. They have also only scored 19 runs in their last five games combined (3.8 runs per game). Logan Gilbert should make use of that futility on Friday. He’s held four of his last five opponents to three runs or less. Expect him to get us a clean frame here to close this NRFI out.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 5: No (-125)
