Jakobi Meyers Still Without New Contract With Raiders

There’s always a handful of NFL players holding out over contract issues every offseason (and sometimes it drags into the regular season), this year being no different. But you won’t find Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers among those names this offseason.

With one year left on his deal with the Raiders, the last year of the three-year, $33 million deal he signed with his first team, the New England Patriots, the Raiders’ top wide receiver, who has topped 800 receiving yards three straight years, was hoping to hammer out the details on a new deal before the season began.

“They are looking at me to see if they want me here. I’m looking at them to see if I want to be around them,” Meyers said when asked about inking a new deal. “We are all kind of doing the same thing, and we’re gonna see how it plays out.”

But there’s no concern, at least currently, of him sitting out games this season. Las Vegas general manager John Spytek labelled Meyers a “consummate professional”, and Meyers backed that up with his words today when asked about possibly holding out.

“If it wasn’t for them (his teammates), I probably would’ve done the same thing everybody else did,” Meyers stated. “But you’ve got to find a way to separate yourself from all the business.”

Degenerate Spin: While it’s good news for Raiders fans that Meyers is suiting up, gamblers should keep an eye on this situation to see if the mood changes. If contract business starts to affect Meyers’ play on the field – or word gets out that he’s considering sitting out – take the appropriate degenerate measures.
