On Monday, we scored a nice winning bet on some first round action courtesy of Luis Morales, who looked outstanding. We’ll look to build on that success with a couple of NRFI bets for September 2.
Once again, every team is in action. With 15 games to choose from it was easy to find a couple of winning NRFI and YRFI props for September 2. Come check out what we have cooked up for this slate of games.

MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 2
Seattle Mariners vs. Tampa Bay Rays
First Pitch – 7:35 pm EST
George M. Steinbrenner Field – Tampa, FL
Broadcast – MLB TV
Kicking off this NRFI play will be Drew Rasmussen. He’s been phenomenal for the Rays lately and all year really. He comes into Tuesday’s action with a 2.64 ERA, but that’s nothing compared to what he did in the month of August. Last month Rasmussen threw a total of 29.1 innings and only allowed five earned runs, which is a 1.53 ERA in that span. Now he gets Seattle, who has been a middle of the pack team in scoring this year – albeit not lately. They have scored just 15 runs over their last four games (going into Monday) and that gives me plenty of confidence that Rasmussen can get it done for us.
Tampa Bay is another middling team when it comes to scoring runs. They post numbers at or around league average for first inning scoring, and scoring throughout the game. The reason I love the NRFI in this one though is not because of them. It’s because of Bryan Woo. He has a 2.95 ERA on the year and also cruised through August. In the month, he had just a 2.27 ERA and struck out 39 batters in 31.2 innings. Expect him to mow a few more down on Tuesday en route to a clean first frame.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 2: No (-110)
Atlanta Braves vs. Chicago Cubs
First Pitch – 7:40 pm EST
Wrigley Field – Chicago, IL
Broadcast – MLB TV
The Braves are up first in our nightcap, and they have just not been much of an offensive threat this year. They are below league average in just about every offensive metric that would lead to first inning runs here. Additionally, they’ve scored just 16 runs over their last five games (or 3.2 runs per game). That simply will not cut it against Shota Imanaga. Imanaga is repping 3.08 ERA and is the third pitcher we’re targeting that had an amazing August. He carried a 2.65 ERA through the month and never once allowed more than three earned runs in a start. The Braves should be far easier than most of his contests over that span.
We’ll get a bit of a sweat in the bottom of the inning with the Cubs at the plate. They are a top five offense in the majors and we’re relying on a guy in Joey Wentz, who is not too long in the tooth. However, despite his ugly surface numbers, he’s been good lately. Since the Braves acquired him, he’s held his opponents to one or less runs in six of his nine starts. That includes doing so in three of his last four. The Cubs came out of the gate cold on Monday, I like Wentz’s chance to keep that running on Tuesday to cash this.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 2: No (-125)
