Underdog Fantasy – DFS Picks for August 26

Charlie Morton – Higher than 5.5 Strikeouts

Morton is looking for six strikeouts on Tuesday, which he’s had in three of the four games that he’s played since being traded to the Tigers. In that span, he’s averaging 7.25 strikeouts per start and 11.69 per nine innings. He should be able to get them early and often against the Athletics, who have been struggling with strikeouts. They fanned 13 times on Monday and have averaged 11.67 strikeouts over their last three games.

Hurston Waldrep – Higher than 4.5 Strikeouts

Waldrep has outstanding in his four appearances for the Braves. He got the ball for the restart of the Speedway Classic and never looked back. All he’s done since is work deep into every game, strike out a ton of batters and keep people off of the bases. He’s allowed just two runs in the 24.2 innings he’s worked, which should help him throw deep into this one. He’s also struck out at least six in every start that he’s had – including one against the Marlins. So, of course, I think he should be able to find five here.

Parker Messick – Higher than 5.5 Strikeouts

Based on what we saw in the minors and college, the hopes were high for Messick in his MLB debut. Even for those really high on him, he surprised with just how good he looked. He went 6.2 innings and fanned six in the process. Those strikeouts came against Arizona, who can be one of the harder teams to strikeout. Now he gets Tampa Bay, who ranks 18th in the majors in strikeouts. I think he could duplicate or even exceed his initial efforts.
