Underdog Fantasy – DFS Picks for August 23
Cristopher Sanchez – Higher than 5.5 Strikeouts
I understand that the Mets aren’t a team who strikes out a lot. They rank 11th in the majors in the category and fan roughly 8.0 times per game. However, we’re talking about Cristopher Sanchez here. He hasn’t failed to meet this mark all month, and has averaged 7.5 strikeouts per start in the month of August. He’s also been higher than this number in seven of his last eight games. Last time he faced the Mets, he only had two, which might be what’s dragging this projection down. That was back in April though, and this is a much different Sanchez.
J.T. Ginn – Higher than 4.5 Strikeouts
Ginn has quietly put up some solid strikeout numbers. On the year, he’s fanned 66 batters in just 60.0 innings. More importantly, he’s on a hot run now. In his last three games, he’s tallied 17 strikeouts in 11.2 innings. Now he’ll get a Detroit team that does strike out quite a bit. They rank 26th in the majors with 8.77 stikeouts per game.
Cam Schlittler – Higher than 5.5 Strikeouts
We sticking wiht the strikeouts for Monday and Cam Schlittler is going to anchor this entry. He’s snagged at least six strikeouts in three of his four starts this month. That includes doing it to Miami, who is ranked 7th in strikeouts this year. The Nationals aren’t bad themselves at limiting the strikeouts, but they have run into a bit of trouble lately. They fanned 12 times on Sunday, bringing their three game average to 11.0 times per game. Schlittler should be able to find us six in there for the cash.
