Prelim Pick of the Week: DWCS Week 3
DWCS Heavyweight Fight: Donte Johnson vs Darion Abbey
Start Time: Tuesday (8/26) 8:00pm EST (ESPN+)
Tuesday’s card had a bit of a shake-up at the last second. A fight between Brando Peričić and Elisha Ellison was not able to happen due to some travel issues and instead will take place on the UFC Perth card at the end of the month. As a result, they were sent scrambling to add another fight. While the odds are not that wide, the new fight provides a big mismatch.
Darrion Abbey enters his Contender Series fight at just 7-4. That record shows that while he can be dangerous, he is also fairly easy to hit. Unfortunately for him, that is a bad recipe for a showdown with Donte Johnson.
Johnson, despite being a light heavyweight, has fought many times at heavyweight already. The thing that sticks out most about him is his uncommon speed. He’s able to close the distance and overwelm his opponents with volume and quite a bit of power. With Abbey already looking like a slow heavyweight, a quick light heavyweight should dance circles around him.
Expect Johnson to find a big punch early and follow it up with a dozen strikes to finish it.
