Underdog Fantasy Picks For NFL Preseason Week 3
Tyson Bagent 120.5 Passing Yards: HIGHER
The first person on our Underdog Fantasy NFL preseason pick’em entry has to be Tyson Bagent. Bagent just became the first quarterback to sign an extension with the Bears since Jay Cutler. If you don’t think this means something to this kid, watch his presser. He’s going to want to prove right away that he is worth the money the Bears just spent to extend him.
Not to mention, Bagent has been on fire. He threw for 196 passing yards against the Buffalo Bills last week on just 13 completions. I expect he’ll continue to fight hard and play hard this weekend against the Chiefs. The starters will be playing, but I don’t expect them to be in there long.
Last week, the Chiefs’ backups allowed Drew Lock to throw for 129 passing yards on 10 completions. They also let Jalen Milroe get 46 yards on three completions. They’ve given up some big plays, and Bagent is a big-play dude. I think he keeps the momentum going. He recently said on a podcast that if all goes well and how they want it to, this will be his last reps on tape as he backs up Caleb Williams all year. Expect some fireworks and Bagent to get HIGHER than 120.5 passing yards.
Jacory Croskey-Merritt 25.5 Rushing Yards: LOWER
If you’re in the fantasy football community, you know Jacory Corskey-Merritt. I haven’t seen somebody this hyped since people thought Roschon Johnson was going to be relevant. They’re calling him Bill, based on his nickname from when he was a kid, and they’re bumping his ADP (average draft position) very high.
However, some of the hype is legit. Bill ran the ball 11 times last week for 46 yards and a touchdown. Two weeks before that, it was seven carries for 24 yards. I don’t expect him to carry the ball 11 times this weekend. In fact, it’s the only pick on my Underdog Fantasy NFL Preseason Week 3 picks that I’m taking the lower.
Washington plays Baltimore, which has a strong defense. On top of that, there are rumors that Bill may be involved in the RB1 rotation with Ekeler. The current thunder to Ekeler’s lightning is Brian Robinson. Robinson and the Commanders seem like they’re headed for a divorce. Therefore, I think they’ll want Bill healthy. The Ravens have only allowed one running back to go higher than 25.5 rushing yards, and it was against their third-string defense. I expect Washington to keep him healthy and only on the field for a little bit.
Tyler Shough 94.5 Passing Yards: HIGHER
Tyler Shough’s stats so far have been 15/22, 165 passing yards in NFL Preseason Week 1, and 9/12, 66 yards in Week 2. So why do I feel like putting him on my Underdog Fantasy NFL Preseason Week 3 pick’em entry? I think it’ll be a really good situational spot for him.
The Saints are the only team that hasn’t named their starting quarterback yet. However, they did announce Spencer Rattler will start this weekend against Denver. That means Spencer Rattler will face the first-string defenders, while Shough will likely play against the second and third-string defenses.
The Broncos’ defense has been solid, even with the backups. In fact, they haven’t allowed a passer to go higher than 95 yards yet. This feels different, though. Shough wants to prove he can win the starting job and lead this team. Meanwhile, the Broncos don’t have a lot of defensive positional battles coming into the game. Therefore, they’ll be moving people all around and testing their backups to see who can make the team. Expect Shough to pop off for a closer showing to what he had in his first preseason game.
Desmond Ridder 134.5 Passing Yards: HIGHER
Last, we have former Atlanta Falcon, Desmond Ridder. Ridder finds himself competing with Jake Browning for the opportunity to back up Joe Burrow. Both quarterbacks have had some decent showings. Last week against Washington, Ridder only got one pass for seven yards, while Browning got all the work.
This weekend, I expect Ridder to get the bulk of the work against the Colts. To top it off, the Colts’ secondary is VERY banged up. In fact, just this week, they brought in guys off the street just because of all the injuries. They are going to be blown assignments and confusion as they try to see who can take the field for their team and suit up come Week 1.
Ridder wants to show he can still be a relevant quarterback. He’s got important starts in the NFL, and he’s ready to try and at least earn a spot on a roster, even if it isn’t Cincinnati’s. I like him to get higher than 134.5 passing yards this weekend against a very porous secondary.
