While the UFC continues to be the king when it comes to MMA and gambling, there is more MMA than ever to bet on now. Promotions all over the world as well as domestic ones are showing up in sportsbooks. The advantage here is that the data is usually quite a bit less sharp than when you’re making MMA predictions for the UFC. MMA Regional Pick of the Week: Road to UFC 5
Road to UFC Lightweight Fight: Dom Mar Fan vs Jae Hyun Park
Card Start Time: Friday (8/22), 6:00am EST (UFC Fight Pass)
In the quarterfinals of the Road to UFC lightweight tournament, we had one of the biggest upsets in recent MMA history. “Street Buddha” Dom Mar Fan defeated Yuji Yannick Ephoeviga and in a one-sided affair. When it hit the judges scorecards, he won across the board 29-27, 29-27, 29-27. It was his grinding style and his ability to mix it up that did the trick against a heavily touted opponent.
Now he seemingly gets an easier opponent. Jae Hyun Park struggled in his first fight on the show. He got taken down early in the fight against Jack Becker and struggled until Becker tired. Mar Fan will have much better cardio and will have even more of a wrestling advantage.
Despite all of these facts, Dom Mar Fan is still coming in as an underdog. The line posted at -120 to start, but for some reason the public has been on Park. We’ll fade the money and get the underdog here.
