Prelim Pick of the Week: UFC Shanghai
UFC Flyweight Fight: Lone’er Kavanagh vs Charles Johnson
Start Time: Saturday (8/23) 3:00am EST (ESPN+)
One of the best prelims on the fight card takes place in the flyweight division. Lone’er Kavanagh is looking to make a name for himself as he faces off with the always tough Charles Johnson.
Johnson recently saw his four-fight win streak come to an end at the hands of Ramazan Temirov. Johnson landed more often in that fight, but the impact of the shots from Temirov was the story of the fight. Knowing the way that Kavanagh fights, I fail to see how this one will be much different.
Kavanagh has always packed a punch for someone of his size. He knocked out a fellow prospect, An Tuan Ho, on Dana White’s Contender Series to get himself to the big show. Since then, he’s stood in with other solid strikers and been the faster, and more powerful of the two. I think he does that again to Johnson and cruises to a victory on Saturday morning.
