Underdog Fantasy – DFS Picks for August 12
George Kirby – Higher than 5.5 Strikeouts
This is one of those projections that makes me scratch my head and wonder what the experts are doing. George Kirby has been on a hell of a run for the Mariners in his last few starts. He’s only failed to meet this projection once since the month turned to July. In that same span, he’s had nine strikeouts three times. To make matters even better for him, he’s facing a Orioles team that fanned 12 times on Sunday and has struck out 10.0 times per game over their last three.
Kelsey Plum – Higher than 5.5 Assists
I don’t know why they keep giving us this projection for Plum. Perhaps it’s because the average is still just 6.1 for the year, but the recent trends are way above that. However, if you just look at her last nine games, the average jumps up by nearly a whole assist. That’s well above the 5.5 number we see on the board today. Additionally, she blew this out of the water when she played New York last month when she picked up eight dimes.
Jacob Lopez – Higher than 5.5 Strikeouts
Another pitcher I think could grab quite a few strikeouts is Jacob Lopez from the Athletics. He is coming off a big 10 strikeout outing against Washington. While he doesn’t quite have the track record Kirby does, he is 7-5 against the projection in the last two months. Tampa Bay is 19th in the majors in strike outs with 8.48 per game. They have been even worse (9.33 per game) over their last three. As a result, I’m calling for another big day from Lopez.
