Underdog Fantasy – DFS Picks for July 31

Andrew Abbott – Higher than 4.5 Strikeouts

Andrew Abbott is not the power pitcher the sports world has come to love. That fact nearly cost him a spot on the All-Star team. However, in his last three games, he has easily handled this projection. He’s struck out 17 batters over his last three starts, or 5.67 per game. Not only had he picked up the swing and miss stuff, but he also gets the struggling Braves. Their inability to score runs should give Abbott a deeper run into the game. Plus, they rank 23rd in team strikeouts and fanned 10 times on Wednesday in a Royals bullpen game.

Janelle Salaun – Lower than 5.5 Rebounds

Salaun’s season average is 4.6 boards, which might make this projection look reasonable, but she hasn’t been close to hitting this lately. On Tuesday at Atlanta, she logged 23 minutes of burn and pulled down just one rebound. That was her fourth game wth four or fewer rebounds in her last five. She hasn’t played Washington yet, but they’re in the top half of the league in field goal percentage. I’m not sure where they think she’s going to find these rebounds.

Kumar Rocker – Higher than 4.5 Strikeouts

Rocker will face Seattle on Thursday, who is one of the few teams worse than the aforementioned Braves in terms of strikeouts. They are 27th with 8.86 strikeouts per game. They faced Rocker back in the end of June and Rocker had 6 strikeouts. Seattle is also having a tough time scoring runs right now. Over the last four games, they’ve scored just nine runs (2.25 runs per game). That should help Rocker get a few more innings in there to get that last strikout or two we might need.
