The NFL season is almost upon us! If you haven’t already started placing those NFL futures bets, now is as good a time as any to get started. The NFL Offensive Player of the Year award has trended towards being awarded to the best non-quarterback in recent years. Will that trend continue, and who do the odds lead us to bet on? Let’s take a look at the 2025 NFL Best Bets: Offensive Player of the Year odds, trends, and past winners.
Last year, Eagles running back Saquon Barkley grabbed the award for the first time in his career with his new team on their way to the Super Bowl LIX victory. It was the second year in a row a running back won the award, but just the third time in the last 10 years. Christian McCaffrey (2022) and Todd Gurley (2017) were the other two.
As covered in the 2025 NFL Best Bets MVP: Odds, Trends, & Past Winners, that award has been handed to a quarterback in 12 straight seasons and 17 of the last 18 years. From 2007 to 2018, a quarterback also won this award eight times. However, since Patrick Mahomes’ 2018 win of OPOTY, it’s gone to either a running back or a wide receiver despite plenty of quarterbacks who could have easily been deserving. One final note: every player who has won it since Adrian Peterson in 2012 has been on a team that’s won at least 11 games.

2025 NFL Best Bets: Offensive Player of the Year Odds, Trends, and Past Winners
Ja’Marr Chase (+900)
Chase hasn’t won this award yet. He finished third in the voting last season, putting up 1,708 receiving yards and catching 17 touchdowns. This Bengals offense is one of, if not my favorite, heading into this season. With Burrow healthy and Chase and Higgins re-signed for the long term, the core of the offense stays in place. They’ve made some changes and updates to the defense, but questions remain about some contracts and just how good they can be. Either way, this offense will be explosive, and like we saw with Josh Allen getting the MVP last year, the voters want to reward the stars of the league. When it comes to the favorites, Chase is the best bet for me.
Christian McCaffrey (+2000)
McCaffrey is just too good a player and talent to pass up at this number. Everyone is disappointed in last season, and that’s understandable. But when we’ve had the chance to see him play at full strength, there aren’t many who can do it like he does. He won the award with a stellar season just two years ago, and he’s still only 29 years old.
When you take a look at this 49ers team, they have the easiest predicted schedule, which is nice for Christian. They’ve also lost a lot, or are missing a lot of their key stars. With Debo gone, Aiyuk is unlikely to play to start the season, and now Ricky Pearsall is already dealing with an injury. They may lean on McCaffery hard and heavy. This isn’t taking him with the #1 fantasy pick or betting him at a short number. At 20/1, it’s worth the shot he still has that explosive Christian McCaffrey in him that we all know.
De’Von Achane (+3500)
As I look down the board for a longer shot to entertain, Achane jumps off the page to me. Like McCaffrey, he’s got amazing explosive potential. Like McCaffrey, the fragile injury risk exists, but we’re hoping for a best-case scenario. Achane burst onto the scene in 2023, putting up 203 rushing yards in his second career game and going over 100 yards in three of the first four games he played.
Last year, he ended the season heating up with two of his final three games going over 120 rushing yards. Like McCaffrey, he is also super explosive when given the ball in the open field via the pass. He was targeted 87 times last season. The Dolphins could be one of the worst teams or one of the best. But if they are a good team, Achane will be a big part of that.
