Underdog Fantasy – DFS Picks for July 25

Zebby Matthews – Higher than 4.5 Strikeouts

Matthews comes into Friday’s action having mowed down at least five batters in four of his five starts this year. The only gave he came up short of this projection was a June start against the Athletics where his pitch count got high due to some walks. He appears to have that under control, and should be able to find five here again. The projection is definitely lower due to the Nationals being one of the five toughest teams to fan this year. However, they are averaging nine strikeouts a game over their last three.

Veronica Burton – Higher than 11.5 Points

I’ve been big on Veronica Burton recently. For weeks, Underdog has projected her in the single figures for points and they are just starting to catch up to her actual potential. I’m loving how often they’re letting her fire off from deep. Over her last four games, she’s taken 5.5 three-pointers per game. Now she gets a revenge game against the team that drafted her and failed to protect her from the expansion draft. I think she gets even more action and should clear this hurdle without a problem.

Adrian Houser – Higher than 3.5 Strikeouts

Here’s another example of a player that has been hot and the projections are low because of who he’s facing. Sure, the Cubs have been tough to strike out this year. However, he’s been higher than this mark in four of his last five or – if you want to take it further – seven of his last nine. The only team recently to stuff him prior to this spot is the Blue Jays, who are statistically the hardest team to strike out. With as late as he’s pitching into games, I think he’ll find four for us.
