MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – July 25
Chicago Cubs vs. Chicago White Sox
First Pitch – 7:40 pm EST
Rate Field – Chicago, IL
Broadcast – MLB TV
This crosstown rivalry is the site for our first NRFI on Friday – largely due to a pitching matchup that I just love. If you had told me back in April that Adrian Houser was going to be a name that I chased for NRFI props, I would have laughed you out of the room. However, the 32-year old righty has proved us all wrong. He comes into Friday’s action with a 1.89 ERA and has somehow been better than that over his last five games. In that span, he’s allowed just six earned runs in 32.2 innings (which equates to a 1.65 ERA). As good as the Cubs have been with the bats, you sort of just have to put your trust in Houser at this point.
The bottom of the inning is set to be a bit easier with the White Sox at the plate. They’ve been awful scoring this season – ranking 27th in the league with just 3.70 runs per game. And while Houser has been great, the White Sox have an equally tall task when it comes to scoring runs. Shota Imanaga is on the bump on Friday. Over the past month, he’s carried a 1.78 ERA and has picked up the win in four of his five starts. Those come against much stronger offenses as well. In that stretch, he’s faced the Red Sox, the Guardians, the Yankees, the Twins and the Cardinals. The White Sox should be a walk in the park for him – especially just for three outs.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 25: No (-125)
Seattle Mariners vs. Los Angeles Angels
First Pitch – 9:38 pm EST
Angel Stadium – Anaheim, CA
Broadcast – MLB TV
Speaking of pitching matchups that I love, this is yet another that is hard to walk away from. Jose Soriano gets the ball first in this one and he faces a Seattle team that is sputtering at the moment. In the series with the Brewers, they managed just two runs over three games and only managed 16 hits as well. Soriano, meanwhile, is on a roll. He’s allowed two or less runs in three of his last four starts. He’s also coming off of 7.0 strong innings against a hard-hitting Phillies team. In that game, he allowed just two earned runs and fanned five. This Mariners squad should be much easier to keep in check than Philadelphia was.
In the bottom of the inning, we get another look at All-Star Bryan Woo. He’s kept a sub-3.00 ERA in tact for the bulk of the year and it currently sits at 2.91. In five of his last six starts, he’s held his opponents to two or less runs. In half of those starts, his opponents have failed to score entirely. Now he’ll face a team that is just middle of the pack in terms of scoring runs. The Angels were also not hot in their last series, putting up 10 over three games with the Mets. Woo should give us a scoreless first and an NRFI cash.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 25: No (-125)
