Underdog Fantasy – DFS Picks for July 24

Eric Lauer – Higher than 4.5 Strikeouts

This projection is another head scratcher for me. Lauer has been mowing over batters all month. In his three July starts, not once has he fallen below six strikeouts in a start. I think part of the thought behind the projection must be that the Tigers have a potent offense and may get to him early. However, the Tigers have also been striking out a lot lately. They are averaging double digit strikeouts over their last three games and just fanned 11 times in a game to Bailey Falter and the Pirates bullpen.

Kelsey Plum – Higher than 23.5 Points + Assists

I was originally looking at just the points for Kelsey Plum in this one, but she came out a little slow on that front following the All-Star break. I expect her to be back to her usual self when it comes to scoring, but even if she isn’t her assists should help pick her up. In the three games prior to the break, she blew this projection out of the water each time – with 26, 26, and 29. Last time she played Connecticut she was just half of a point away from beating this without assists even coming into play.

Yu Darvish – Higher than 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed

We’re fading Yu Darvish on Thursday as he really hasn’t found his footing in this short season. In his three outings, the only game where he didn’t let up at least three earned runs was the first. In that game, he didn’t manage to make it through four innings – largely due to pitch limits and a ton of walks. The Cardinals rank in the top ten in the league when it comes to scoring runs at home. They should be able to find three against Darvish.
