Underdog Fantasy – DFS Picks for July 23
Sandy Alcantara – Lower than 3.5 Strikeouts
Once upon a time it would have been a crazy play to get the ‘Lower than’ on Sandy Alcantara’s strikeouts at just 3.5, but he really hasn’t been himself this season. He hasn’t struck out more than four batters in a game in more than a month, which is already a concern for this projection. However, then you place him against the Padres, who are one of the toughest teams in the league to fan. They rank 3rd in the majors at just barely over seven strikeouts per game.
Sami Whitcomb – Higher than 1.5 Three-Pointers Made
One thing you have to know about a Phoenix Mercury game is that Whitcomb is going to fire off some deep balls. She’s putting up 6.0 attempts a game over the season and recent months have been even more aggressive than that. Since the Commissioner’s Cup ended in mid-June, she’s put up 7.4 three-point attempts per game. That volume is tough to ignore, as is the fact that she’s made at least two of them in three of her last four games.
Mike Trout – Higher than 0.5 Total Bases
I’m not sure why Underdog Fantasy is listing the projection on Trout so low here. Sure, his season-long numbers don’t look great, but he’s been hot lately. He has a hit in seven of his last eight games played and had multiple in two of those. Additionally, if we want to run it deeper, he has hits in 14 of the 17 games he’s played this month. He’ll have a familiar face he’s trying to hit off of too. Sean Manaea takes the hill today. The two have faced off 25 times with Trout going 9-for-21 (.429). He’s also slugged a robust .952 in the head-to-head.
