Underdog Fantasy – DFS Picks for July 4
Joey Chestnut – Higher than 71.25 Hot Dogs Eaten
It’s the 4th of July, so you know we have to take a look at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. Chestnut is returning to the contest after a year suspension due to taking a plant-based hot dog sponsorship. You have to imagine that he’s coming back and looking to put up absurd numbers. He’s gone higher than this number four times in his career and I think he does it again here.
Bryan Woo – Higher than 6.5 Strikeouts
Bryan Woo has been on one of his better strikeout runs. Despite not being a big stikeout guy, he’s got back-to-back games with nine fans. Those games came against Texas and Minnesota, both of which rank near the middle of the league in terms of their per game strikeout average. Now Woo will draw a team that goes down on strikes far more. The Pirates rank in the bottom third of the league in that category with nearly nine a game. Woo should throw deep into this one and give us at least seven.
Adrian Houser – Higher than 4.5 Strikeouts
Houser is also not a big strikeout guy, but he is facing the Rockies. They strike out more than any team in MLB with 9.84 per game. Houser has also seen an untick in his numbers. He went higher than this number in three of his five June starts. The only two that kept him lower than 4.5 were the Rangers (a league average team) and the Blue Jays (the best team in the majors at limiting strikeouts). With Houser getting the worst squad, I like his chances in coming in higher.
