There are four main quarterback competitions happening in the offseason, and all can be bet on. We started the season with five. However, after Rodgers signed with the Steelers, that one is all but wrapped up. We’ll be breaking down each competition this month and who you should bet on to start. Let’s take a look at the Colts’ Week 1 starting quarterback odds and who you should bet.
Other quarterback competitions we’ve covered include the New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts.
New York Giants Starting QB Odds: Who Will Start at Quarterback
First, let’s talk about the players competing for the New York Giants starting quarterback spot. The Giants only have one returning quarterback, and that’s Tommy DeVito. If you have been living under a rock, DeVito has even started games for this New York Giants team.
In the free agency, they added two veterans to the team. One was former Seahawks, Broncos, and Steelers quarterback, Russell Wilson. The other was another journeyman quarterback in Jameis Winston. Both bring experience and leadership to a team that decided last year to move on from Daniel Jones. Jones was drafted with the intention of being their franchise quarterback. However, after bad performances and injuries, the Giants parted ways with him late last year.
The Giants didn’t stop adding to their quarterback room with just the free agency. They also traded back into the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft to draft quarterback Jaxson Dart. Taking him in the first, and trading into the first no less, shows that this team likely views Dart as their franchise quarterback.
Let’s take a look at the players and who we think will start at quarterback for the New York Giants.
Russell Wilson (-800)
As the bookmakers see it and the odds have it, Russell Wilson will be the Giants’ starting QB. Wilson is entering his 14th season as a quarterback in the league. He started all 16 games, his rookie season in 2012, for the Seattle Seahawks.
Wilson played for the Seahawks all the way up until after the 2021 season, when a big trade sent him to the Denver Broncos. It didn’t work out for Wilson or the Broncos, and his first year starting for them in 2022 was the only year he won less than six games. In fact, Wilson only had two years on the Seahawks, where he won fewer than double-digit games.
It hasn’t been as easy for Wilson the last four years, where he’s combined for a total of 23 wins in 55 games. However, he has still managed to throw for over 12,000 yards, 83 touchdowns, and 30 interceptions in those four years. Perhaps not the same quarterback he was, there’s no doubt Wilson brings veteran leadership and experience to this Giants team.
A quarterback who has thrown for 46,145 yards and 350 touchdowns, as well as rushed for 5,462 yards and 31 rushing touchdowns, Wilson has the numbers to justify his career. He is the most likely “win now” quarterback. However, are the Giants looking to win now? No team goes into the season to lose, but they have one of the hardest schedules all year. Will they let Wilson endure the season or look to develop the future of the franchise?
Jameis Winston (+600)
The other veteran that the Giants brought in to compete to start at QB is Jameis Winston. Winston’s ten-year career doesn’t exactly follow the same arc as Wilson’s. He started out as the starting quarterback for the team that drafted him, the Tampa Bay Bucs, for five years.
In that time, Winston had highs and lows, capped by his last season in 2019, where he led the league in passing yards and in interceptions. Winston was then part of the New Orleans Saints, where he started 21 games over four years, never settling in as a full starter.
Last year, Winston played in 12 games for the Cleveland Browns. The results were mixed with 2,121 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Winston likely isn’t the quarterback you want starting on the field. However, Winston is a guy you want in the locker room. I don’t truly feel he has the Giants’ second-best starting QB odds, but I do feel he’s great for this team.
Winston not only brings a veteran presence. He also brings leadership and great locker-room character. He can lift the team up, as well as help guide the younger players on the team. Unfortunately, I don’t think that will be enough to catapult him to the starting spot.
Jaxson Dart (+1600)
As I mentioned, the Giants drafted quarterback Jaxson Dart. It’s actually the first quarterback that the current regime of GM Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll has drafted since they took over in 2022. This shows a lot of confidence that they think he can be the future of this franchise. However, does that future start now?
Dart started his collegiate career at USC. He then transferred to Ole Miss, where he played for three years. In his final year, he threw for a 69.3 completion percentage, 4,279 yards, 29 touchdowns, and just six interceptions. He also ran for 495 yards and three touchdowns.
Normally, trading into the first round requires a massive haul of picks. The good news is, the Giants didn’t have to give up a haul. Their first pick was on the defensive side, selecting a potential generational pass-rusher in Abdul Carter. They then only had to trade their 2025 picks, numbers 34 and 99, and a 2026 third-round pick to get Dart. Meaning, they still have next year’s first to continue to help build around him.
It doesn’t sound like the organization is in a rush to start Dart. Schoen was quoted as saying he’d like Dart to “sit and learn behind a couple of veterans”. The training camp buzz from rookie camp and initial OTAs stated that Dart has looked good and that he is fitting right in.
While I still think Dart ends up seeing some playing time this year, I’m not sure I see him starting.
Tommy DeVito(+10000)
I won’t spend too much time talking about Tommy DeVito. However, he is somebody that the Giants have relied on to lead their team on the field. DeVito played in nine games in 2023, throwing for 1101 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions. He also played in three games in 2024.
Unfortunately for Devito, he’s the most likely to get cut among this group. They invested in the veterans and the rookie, and he may be left as the odd man out. Look for DeVito to end up on their Giants’ practice squad.
Who Will Be The Giants’ Starting QB In Week 1?
Unfortunately, unlike the Colts’ starting quarterback spot, I’m not sure the Giants’ starting quarterback spot has much value. Russell Wilson will likely start as their quarterback, and -800 just isn’t a very good price. Whether he starts the most games for the team is yet to be seen. It will all depend on the outlook from the coaching staff and GM/ownership.
If the Giants are off to a bad start, Daboll and Schoen may need Dart to roll out and have some good games to buy them some time and ensure they’ll return next year. Otherwise, it would be back to square one for Dart and the Giants if they chose to bring in a new coaching staff.
