Of course, there are plenty out there taking blind guesses at this stuff. It’s easy to pick the best-hitting team or look at what happened in the last game. However, we spent the time pouring through the analytics to make sure that we give you the best odds to stay in the green on these NRFI and YRFI props for June 24. MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 24
New York Yankees vs. Cincinnati Reds
First Pitch – 7:10 pm EST
Great American Ball Park – Cincinnati, OH
Broadcast – MLB TV
It’s not everyday that we look at an NRFI with the Yankees swinging the bats. It’s even less common that we expect a player making his major league debut to blank the Yankees early. However, that’s exactly what we’re calling for here in the debut of Chase Burns. Burns was a college sensation in 2024 with Wake Forest. In 100 innings that year, he struck out 191 batters. Those trends have continued through the minors this year as he climbed from A-ball all the way up. Through the three levels, he’s thrown 66.0 innings with 89 strikeouts – all while posting a 1.77 ERA. With no major league data on him, I expect the Yankees to struggle early.
Cincinnati brings another set of formidable bats to the plate in the bottom of the inning. If fact, they’re one of the very best teams at putting up runs in the first inning. However, rookie Allan Winans got the job done on Monday and now they face a much tougher task with Carlos Rodon. Rodon rides a 3.10 ERA into Tuesday with a sub-1.00 WHIP. His 114 strikeouts also puts him in the top five in the majors. As he seeks his 10th win of the year, I’ll trust that he can get us three quick outs.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 24: No (-110)
Tampa Bay rays vs. Kansas City Royals
First Pitch – 7:40 pm EST
Kauffman Stadium – Kansas City, MO
Broadcast – MLB TV
There’s much less to worry about in this NRFI in terms of the offense. Tampa Bay ranks right around league average when it comes to scoring early in the game. Now they’ll have the tall task of getting to Kris Bubic. Bubic has a microscopic 2.12 ERA at this stage of the season and has seen an uptick in his strikeouts as well. In his last four starts (23.2 innings), he’s fanned 27 batters. Tampa Bay is in the bottom third of the league when it comes to striking out on the road. I expect that Bubic should use that to get our NRFI started right here.
To close out our second NRFI, we’ll need Taj Bradley to keep the Royals at bay. That’s not too much of an ask being that the Royals rank 29th in the MLB in terms of runs per game (3.36 per game). They’re also in the bottom third of the league when it comes to scoring in the first inning. Bradley may not have the best numbers on the surface, but he did get scoreless outings in two of his last three outings. Kansas City should help him get some more of that success.
