We’re being treated to two UFC pay-per-views this month, with UFC 317 going down this Saturday night in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. With a vacant title up for grabs in the main event, we’re guaranteed to see at least one new champion crowned this weekend. For my MMA Main Card Pick of the Week: UFC 317, I’ve zeroed in on a lightweight bout between two grizzled veterans. Let’s go!

MMA Main Card Pick of the Week: UFC 317
UFC 317: Topuria vs Oliveira
Main Card Start Time: 10:00 PM EST – (PPV)
The fight from which my pick originates features two remarkably similar lightweights: Beneil Dariush and Renato Moicano. Both were born within a couple of weeks of each other in 1989, both have fought almost the same number of pro fights (Dariush 29, Moicano 27), and both can crack on the feet and grapple on the mat. However, one seems to have gas left in his tank, and the other is riding on E.
My pick is Moicano. He lost his last fight, but that was a short-notice bout against the lightweight champion (at the time), Islam Makhachev. Before that, he had won four straight, battering and bloodying every opponent in sight. Dariush, on the other hand, hasn’t even fought since December 2023, has been knocked out in back-to-back fights, and hasn’t had his hand raised in victory since October 2022.
