MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 22

Texas Rangers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

First Pitch – 1:35 pm EST
PNC Park – Pittsburgh, PA
Broadcast – MLB TV

We’re rode this series to an NRFI on Saturday and we’re looking to double down on Sunday. Part of the reason is just how bad these offenses have been. The Rangers currently rank 26th in the majors in runs scored with just 3.63 per game. On Saturday, they faced Mitch Keller and only managed two earned runs over 5.2 innings. Now they’ll have a tougher matchup in Bailey Falter. Falter carries a 3.49 ERA into Sunday’s action and has allowed just 10 earned runs over his last five games. He should be able to keep that trend going and get us out of the first three outs unscathed.

Vanderbilt graduate Kumar Rocker kept the Pirates quiet early and picked up the win on Saturday. Now his college teammate gets the chance to do so on Sunday. Jack Leiter has been hit around in his last two, but overall has been tough this year. Facing the Pirates should help him settle in – particularly in the first inning. The Pirates are tied for last when it comes to first inning scoring. They’re averaging just 0.32 runs per game in the first inning, which Leiter should be able to build on.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 22: No (-105)

Cincinnati Reds vs. St. Louis Cardinals

First Pitch – 2:15 pm EST
Petco Park – St. Louis, MO
Broadcast – MLB TV

The Reds are the first of the teams in out slate today that have been hitting well on the season. In fact, they are one of the very best teams in the league in terms of scoring runs. However, they may have trouble keeping that going with Miles Mikolas on the bump. He finished May with a 3.08 ERA and is coming off another sharp start against the Brewers. He also had a chance to start against these same Reds back in April and held them scoreless over 5.1 innings. He only allowed three hits in that game and didn’t walk anyone,

The bottom of the inning will see these Cardinals try to get going early. We mentioned before that the Pirates were tied for late in terms of first inning runs – this is the team that they are tied with. Things won’t get better for St. Louis with Andrew Abbott dealing. He has a 1.84 ERA on the year and has allowed one or fewer earned runs in four of his last five starts. If there is any team to break that trend, it is definitely not the Cardinals.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 22: No (+105)
