MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 12
New York Yankees vs. Kansas City Royals
First Pitch – 7:40 pm EST
Kauffman Stadium – Kansas City, MO
Broadcast – MLB TV
We picked up an NRFI on this series on Wednesday and we’re looking to double down. The pot is even sweeter on Thursday as the books have boosted that price all the way up into plus-money. That’s likely due to the solid bats of the Yankees and the fact that they did post a five-spot in the second. Despite that, I have faith in Seth Lugo, who has been solid this year. He comes into Thursday’s action with a 3.46 ERA. That’s up a bit from what he posted in April, but that’s largely due to one ugly start against the Tigers. Outside of that, Lugo has held opponents to three or fewer runs in six of his last seven starts.
The bottom of the first should be much less of a sweat. The Royals offense is far from what the Yankees are posting. They rank 23rd in the MLB in terms of first inning scoring (just 0.38 per game). They’ve been even worse when it comes to scoring acorss the entire game. In that category, they rank 28th with just 3.40 runs per game. Will Warren will try to keep that trend going in this one. While he has been hit around in his last two, that was by the Dodgers and the Red Sox, both of which have been much better than these Royals.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 12: No (+100)
Chicago White Sox vs. Houston Astros
First Pitch – 8:10 pm EST
Daikin Park – Houston, TX
Broadcast – MLB TV
Just like we returned to Kansas City to double down, we’re heading back to Houston to do the same. These two gave us our second hit on Wednesday with an NRFI, and I think they’re primed to do it again.
One of the major reasons I see another one coming is that the White Sox are hitting in the top of the first. This squad currently ranks 27th in the majors in runs per game with just 3.51. Their ability to add to that will be tricky with Framber Valdez on the bump. He carried his 3.07 ERA into action and he’s been on fire recently. In his last two starts (16.0 innings), he’s fanned 20 batters while only allowing three earned runs.
The second half of this inning also gives me plenty of confidence. The Astros continue to be the worst team in MLB when it comes to scoring in the first inning. On they year, they’ve put up just 0.27 first inning runs per game in the first. They’ll struggle to find their footing against Davis Martin who has a 3.62 ERA and looked great last time out. He threw 6.0 innings and struck out seven while only allowing a pair of solo home runs all game. He should be able to get us a quick three and help us cash this.
