MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 11

New York Yankees vs. Kansas City Royals

First Pitch – 7:40 pm EST
Kauffman Stadium – Kansas City, MO
Broadcast – MLB TV

We played Russian roulette with the top of the Yankees order on Tuesday and paid the price. Aaron Judge took Noah Cameron long for only his fourth and fifth earned runs of the series. We’re going to roll the dice again with a pitcher with a bit longer of a track record. Kris Bubic has been outstanding this year. Over 12 starts, he is still posting a 1.43 ERA with 79 strikeouts in just 75.1 innings. While Cameron couldn’t get us to those first three outs, I feel like Bubic should be able to do just that.

The bottom of the inning should be less sweaty due to just how bad the bats of Kansas City has been. They rank 22nd in first inning runs and have been much worse over the whole game. They rank 27th in overall run scoring with just 3.42 runs per game. Now they’ll face Clarke Schmidt, who is on a nice run over the last couple games. He’s allowed just three earned runs in his last two starts (11.1 innings) and managed to fan 12 batters in that span. That’s all against far better offenses than the Royals.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 11: No (TBD)

Chicago White Sox vs. Houston Astros

First Pitch – 8:10 pm EST
Daikin Park – Houston, TX
Broadcast – MLB TV

The top of the first sees the White Sox come to the plate to try to disrupt our NRFI play. They, like the Royals, have been one of the very worst offenses in the league. They rank 26th in run scoring with 3.53 runs per game. In this game, they’ll face Ryan Gusto, who perhaps doesn’t have the best surface numbers. However, in his last four appearances, he’s only allowed a first inning run in one of them. It hardly seems like the White Sox will be the team to break that trend.

The bottom of the inning sees a team that scores quite a few more runs in Houston. However, they don’t look better in the first inning. In fact, nobody has been worse in the first innings than the Astros. They rank dead last in the majors in first inning runs with 0.23 per game. They’ll be facing Sean Burke in this one, who has been sharp as of late. Over his last three appearances, he has allowed five earned runs in 21.0 innings. That’s good for a 2.14 ERA in that span and struck out 17 batters as well.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 11: No (TBD)
