MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 31
St. Louis Cardinals vs. Texas Rangers
First Pitch – 4:05 pm EST
Globe Life Field – Arlington, TX
Broadcast – MLB TV
We played this game on Friday on the NRFI and we were one pitch away from it cashing. As a result, we’re going to double down. Neither of these teams have been hitting all that well lately and we’ve got another pitching matchup that I like.
Leading off the top of the first is the resurgent Patrick Corbin. After a dismal last couple of years, he’s rebounded this year in a big way. He carries a 3.75 ERA into Saturday’s action and has seen an uptick in his strikeout numbers as of late. In his last three starts (16.1 innings), he has 18 strikeouts. Noiw he’ll get to face the Cardinals, who rank 27th in first inning scoring on the year.
Sonny Gray gets the ball in the bottom of the first. He’s held opponents scoreless in two of his last four starts. Additionally, he too has seen an uptick in his strikeout numbers. Over his last two starts, he has 15 strikeouts in just 12.0 innings. He’ll only have to stop the Rangers for three outs and they’ve been one of the worst run scoring teams in the majors. They’re 28th in the majors with just 3.25 runs per game. Going into Friday’s action, they had scored just three runs in their last three games.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 31: No (TBD)
Minnesota Twins vs. Seattle Mariners
First Pitch – 7:15 pm EST
T-Mobile Park – Seattle, WA
Broadcast – FOX
The other game I like on the NRFI this weekend is out west. The Mariners host the Twins, who have been just awful at the plate as of late. Going into Friday’s action, they had scored just 12 runs over their last five games. Now they’ll face Bryce Miller, who doesn’t have the best looking number on the season, but that’s because he was pitching hurt. Now he’s taken the time away to heal up and with the Twins swinging as bad as they have, he should be in business Saturday.
The Mariners will get the second chance to spoil the NRFI, but they will have to do so against Bailey Ober. While the Mariners have been good with the bats this year, I still like Ober’s chance to blank them early. He’s been solid this year – posting a 3.41 ERA on the year. He’s held six of his last seven opponents to just one earned run. Ober has also held eight of his eleven opponents on the year to just a single run. That run is solid enough to trust against any set of bats.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 31: No (TBD)
