MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 8

Chicago White Sox vs. Kansas City Royals

First Pitch – 2:10 pm EST
Kauffman Stadium – Kansas City, MO
Broadcast – MLB TV

The top of the first will see the White Sox look to ruin our NRFI bet on Thursday. However, we’ve got a couple of things going for us here. The first being that it is, in fact, the White Sox trying to ruin it. They rank 25th in MLB in runs scored with 3.53 per game. The second thing that we have going for us is that Kris Bubic will be on the rubber. Bubic has been sensational this year, holding a 1.98 ERA and keeping two of his last three opponents scoreless. I doubt that Chicago is going to be the team to upset that trend.

The White Sox may not be a team that any pundit is hyped on in terms of their hitting, they sneakily have quite a few starters who have had solid starts. One of those guys is Davis Martin. He has just a 3.52 ERA and has been even better as of late. In his last three appearances combined (16.0 innings), he’s allowed just three total earned runs. To make matters easier for him, the Royals are even worse at the plate than the White Sox. They’ve averaging just 3.43 runs per game, which puts them in 27th in the league.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 8: No (TBD)

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Los Angeles Angels

First Pitch – 9:38 pm EST
Angel Stadium – Los Angeles, CA
Broadcast – MLB TV

Speaking of teams that can’t put up runs, we’ll head to a game with the Blue Jays next. They are 26th in MLB in runs scored and had posted just 10 runs in the last three games heading into Wednesday’s action. None of that bodes well for the team north of the broder, nor does the pitching matchup. Jose Soriano has been pretty solid this year, keeping his ERA under 4.00. However, he’s also coming off of his best start of the year – a 6.0 inning, scoreless outing against the Tigers.

The Angels, on the other hand, came out of the gate hot with the bats. They looked like a completely revamped offense to start, but since have fallen apart. They’ve fallen all the way to 24th in the majors in runs scored and will have to try to change that against Chris Bassitt. That’s unlikely – particularly in the first inning – as Bassitt has a 2.95 ERA and has 43 strikeouts in 39.2 innings. He should be able to keep the Blue Jays at bay and round out our second NRFI of the day.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 8: No (TBD)
