MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 6

Chicago White Sox vs. Kansas City Royals

First Pitch – 7:40 pm EST
Kauffman Stadium – Kansas City, MO
Broadcast – MLB TV

We rode this series and their surprisingly good Monday pitching matchup to an NRFI yesterday, and I like it again on Tuesday. The added benefit is that the number has actually gone down a touch – making it even more enticing.

The top of the first sees another of the Royals top of the line starters. Seth Lugo takes the bump and has been predictably solid for the Royals. He carries a 3.07 ERA into action and has picked up his strikeout numbers lately. He has 13 strikeouts in his last 14.0 innings, all while allowing just two earned runs. He’s just a two starts removed from throwing 8.0 scoreless against Houston. With the White Sox coming in at 25th in MLB in runs, he should be able to put up a similar performance here.

While the White Sox don’t quite have the name value in starters that the Royals do, they have had solid performances. One guy giving them good looks as of late is Sean Burke. In his last two outings, he’s gone 11.0 innings and allowed just one run. That run came on a solo shot, which means he’s largely kept everyone else in check. He added 10 strikeouts to that mix and gets to face the 27th ranked offense in this one. I trust him to bring home the NRFI for us.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 6: No (-110)

Houston Astros vs. Milwaukee Brewers

First Pitch – 7:40 pm EST
American Family Field – Milwaukee, WI
Broadcast – MLB TV

Another name that you might not know – but maybe you should – is Chad Patrick. He gets the start in this one for the Brewers. He comes in with a surprisingly modest 2.87 ERA and has not really had any ugly games this year. I love the consistency and I like it even more against the top of this Astros line up. They’ve struggled heavily in the early game, averaging just 0.21 first inning runs per game – which puts them in dead last in the league.

The other side of things sees Hayden Wesneski toe the rubber. He has not been quite as consistent for the Astros as Patrick has been for the Brewers. However, he has posted some solid numbers in his own right. He has a 3.86 ERA and has fanned 26 in 28.0 innings. The thing I like about him in this one is that he has been really good at limiting walks. Over the season, he’s walked only four guys. That accuracy should play up here against a Brewers team who sees plenty of pitches.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 6: No (-120)
