The UFC octagon is back home at the UFC Apex this Saturday, so you know what that means – a mediocre Fight Night card!! UFC is gonna UFC. But the top two fights on the night are meaningful, sorta, so we’ve got that. And we’re going to win money on it, which is the most important thing. UFC Vegas 105 Predictions & Best Bets
Lerone Murphy (-310) vs Josh Emmett
Featherweights occupy the top two slot on Saturday, with Lerone Murphy and Josh Emmett headlining the night. And I’m going with the heavy favorite, England’s Murphy.
Emmett has scary power, but he’s in his 40s now and has been on the shelf for almost a year and a half. I think Murphy can outstrike him as well as outgrapple him – he just has to be very careful to avoid getting his lights turned out.
Joanderson Brito (-225) vs Pat Sabatini
Brazilian Joanderson Brito is a wildman in the cage, which can be a positive and a negative for him. His opponent on Saturday, Pat Sabatini, is purely a grappler, so Brito should be able to school him on the feet.
But Brito is also dangerous on the mat, with eight submission wins against only seven knockout wins. Sabatini might get Brito down, but the Brito can handle his business while on the mat.
Davey Grant (+130) vs Daniel Santos
‘Dangerous’ Davey Grant is my underdog play of the week, as I expect him to beat Daniel Santos in their prelim bantamweight fight. The ‘Dangerous’ moniker is fitting for the Brit, as he has 13 finishes in his 16 wins.
Grant is going to be able to outstrike Santos on Saturday – he’s the better and more active striker in this matchup. But he’s dangerous (there’s that word again) everywhere – he’s actually more potent on the mat, just like Brito.
Talita Alencar (-110) vs Vanessa Demopoulos
We’ve got a grapplers’ special on the prelims, as well, with women’s strawweight Talita Alencar facing Vanessa Demopoulos. Alencar isn’t your run-of-the-mill grappler, however, as she’s a four-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion.
Demopoulos just fought another BJJ champion in her last fight, Jacqueline Amorim, and got herself submitted. She won’t be able to win a grappling matchup with Alencar, either.
Loma Lookboonme (-649) vs Istela Nunes
We’ll wrap things up with another women’s 115-pound fight. Istela Nunes is stepping into this matchup on short notice and has yet to win a UFC fight in her career, going 0-4. That’s a couple of big strikes against here.
And Loma Lookboonme is quite good, going 6-2 in the UFC. If you want a better line, take Lookboonme by decision – that’s the only way she wins fights (she has one career knockout and one career submission in 12 professional MMA fights), and you can get it for -165.
