UFC vegas 103: Kape vs Almabayev – Predictions & Best Bets
Charles Johnson ML (-125) vs. Ramizan Temirov
In the night’s opening fight, I like Charles Johnson to keep his win streak going. Johnson was one of three UFC fighters to go 4-0 in 2024, and he was healthy enough to get another (although he didn’t get the call). The pace he puts on people combined with the way he cuts angles makes him a tough out for anyone.
The books originally had him as an underdog – banking on the popularity of fighters from Eurasia. However, Temirov likes to throw down on the feet and I’m not sure he’s seen anybody like this. The miscalculation from the books still has us with a nice number here.
Asu Almabayev ML (+180) vs. Manel Kape
In the main event, I’m liking the underdog. Almabayev has shown that he can blend the portions of his game particularly well – going seamlessly from striking to grappling. That has proven to be a problem with Kape in the past. His three losses in the UFC have all come to people who grapple well and each has made him gunshy a bit. Add in that he might be pacing himself in a 5-round fight, and I expect Almabayev to get ahead early here.
Danny Silva – Wins via (T)KO (+240)
Danny Silva hits hard, especially when you give him a chance to land some of his counters. He’s finished over half of his fights with a knockout. Now he’ll face Lucas Almeida, who has walked into a knockout on a counter recently. That was at the hands of Andre Fili, who is a great fighter, but is hardly a power puncher. If he couldn’t take that one, I expect Silva to tag him here too.
Cody Brundage ML (+110) vs Julian Marquez
Marquez is coming off of getting knocked out in three consecutive bouts. He hasn’t made it to the final bell since 2018. Now he faces a guy with two of his biggest weaknesses. Brundage is a guy who knows how to sling his right hand for big power – which hasn’t gone well for Marquez for a few fights. He also can wrestle a bit, which has been a bit of an achilles heel for him in the past. With two ways to get it done here, I like the value on the underdog.
Andrea Lee +3.5 (-190) vs JJ Aldrich
To be honest, I like the moneyline too on Andrea Lee, which comes in at +180. However, I think the points line here is an even bigger value.
While Lee is on a five-fight losing streak, she also has been in a lot of close fights. She lost a split decision to highly ranked Maycee Barber and another to Montana De La Rosa. She knows how to keep a fight close and should be able to grit out at least one round here on Saturday.
Chepe Mariscal – Wins via Submission (+475)
I always like to end these things with at least one bomb. Chepe Mariscal hasn’t scored a submission in some time. However, he is a black belt in judo and had a slew of submissions back in his amateur days. The best opportunity to get back to that might be his opponent – Ricardo Ramos. He has stuck himself in a pair of guillotine chokes over his last three fights. Neither of those came against guys with a ton of submissions either. I like Mariscal to add to that running list.
