NBA First Scorer Props – February 27
Denver Nuggets vs. Milwaukee Bucks
Tipoff – 8:00 pm EST
Kaseya Center – Wilwaukee, WI
Broadcast – TNT
In the nationally televised Thursday game, I’m favoring the home squad to put up the first bucket. The Bucks gave a sizable 10.3% advantage when it comes to the tip win percentage. With tip winners getting roughly 65.7% of the first buckets on the year, that’s already enough to back them here. However, they also have converted more scores than the Nuggets have. They hold a 5.2% advantage in that metric. When you combine those two things, it’s easy to back the Bucks to score first – especially at -110.
If we’ve looking for a specific player to get on the board first, I’m going with Kyle Kuzma. The newest addition to the squad has taken a lot of the early shots since joining the team. In the last three games, if you take the Bucks first three shots, Kuzma has 33.3% of those shots overall. In one of those games he took two of the first three shots. Combine that with the big number next to his name and he’s easy to get behind.
First Scorer Bet for February 27: Kyle Kuzma (+900)
Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Los Angles Lakers
Tipoff – 10:30 pm EST
crypto.com Arena – Los Angeles, CA
Broadcast – NBA TV
The surface stats for these two teams are not all that different. However, the players actually taking the tip in this game are wildly different. Naz Reid has taken four tips for the Timberwolves this year, and he has yet to win a single tip. Meanwhile, since trading Anthony Davis, Jaxson Hayes has been in charge of the jump balls. He has currently won 9-of-14 on the year (64.3%). That difference is enough for me to get behind the Lakers here at -135.
While it is a little chalky, the player I’m riding with on Thursday is Luka Doncic. In the last four games that he’s played for the Lakers, he’s taken the first shot in every single one of them. Additionally, LeBron James is banged up and listed as questionable. That opens the door even further for Luka Doncic to come through and get that first score.
First Scorer Bet for February 27: Luka Doncic (+400)
