In this format, you only draft 10 players and there are no waivers. You have to start 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 W/TE, and 1 Flex. You only have 5 bench spots. The general guide per Hayden Winks is 1-2QB, 3-4RB, 4-6 WR/TE. You should look ahead and be drafting based on your Super Bowl matchups instead of rankings. If you think that the Packers are going to be eliminated in Round 1, you should avoid them. If you think the Ravens are playing the Lions in the Super Bowl, you should target those players. The teams with the top odds are the Kansas City Chiefs (36.6%) and the Detroit Lions (33%).

Underdog does a great job making data available for you. You can view their rankings, projections, and average draft position right on the website. They offer their advice on the best strategies for the tournament as well. You can create your private contests or join some of their smaller contests as well. The Gauntlet is the big one, the Mitten is a smaller contest with just a $5 fee that you might use for practice.

Quarterback

Quarterbacks score too many points to play them late. I will try to get one early and one later. If you are picking early, you can go with Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen. If you are picking later you may have to wait. Jared Goff and Patrick Mahomes have bye weeks this week. This is why they are lower on the board, but good options if you miss out on the big three at the top. Ideally, you can get Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, or Jalen Hurts to start your draft. If not, I would not mind settling for Baker Mayfield or Sam Darnold to pair with Saquan Barkley.

I am drafting two quarterbacks. if you draft Jared Goff or Patrick Mahomes, you NEED to draft a player who plays this weekend. You can always go with the 1QB system, best bets are Allen, Hurts, or Jackson. Using a spot of Bo Nix might seem pointless if you expect Allen to knock him out in Week 1. But, three Quarterbacks you can get a little later than I like are Herbert (Round 5), Jayden Daniels (Round 6), and Baker Mayfield (Round 9). All players that could have a spike week and could end up playing two games for you.

Running Back

If you can’t get one of the Quarterbacks in Round 1, give me Saquan or Jahmyr Gibbs. Both are favored to go to the Super Bowl and both are playing this weekend. If you can’t get them, I like James Cook in the 2nd Round to pair him with a player like Lamar Jackson. I was able to get Derrick Henry in the second, paired up with Josh Allen (insert chef’s kiss).

The plan is to get 3-4 Running Backs. David Montgomery is a late-round option in Rounds 5 or 6 along with Bucky Irving. Rounds 8-10 are backs on teams with low chances to make it to the Super Bowl. But, they could provide a solid week or two for you. Brian Robinson Jr. in the 8th, Rachaad White in the 10th, and Kareem Hunt in the 8th.

Wide Receiver

Ideally, you can stack your Wide Receiver with your Quarterback. Unfortunately, there are not many ideal scenarios here. But, one stack that I love is Jalen Hurts in the first with A.J. Brown in the second. A Philly Super Bowl would be beautiful for this stack. Ideally, you would look at AFC counterparts in this draft. Looking at the Bills, Chiefs, and Ravens to balance out this team. Adding a Lion or two would not hurt if you want to hedge. Xavier Worthy in the third round or Travis Kelce.

In the fourth round, Mark Andrews or Khalil Shakir. Sam LaPorta or Rashod Bateman in the fifth round. This could be followed up with David Montgomery or Zay Flowers on the 6th. In the last three rounds, you are looking at DeAndre Hopkins, Dalton Kincaid, Keon Coleman, and Isaiah Likely.

Tight End

Underdog gives you the option to bypass the position if you please. One tough part about that is the high touchdown production from the position. That adds to the volatility of the position. But, we all have seen the Boom weeks from Travis Kelce, Mark Andrews, and Sam LaPorta. We also have late-round tight ends like Noah Gray, Isaiah Likely, and Dalton Kincaid. I would recommend looking at them and the wide receivers together. Draft for value and stack pass catchers with your Quarterback.
