2024 Bowl Season – Bowl Games Best Bets – Saturday, January 4th
Bahamas Bowl: Buffalo (-2.5) Vs. Liberty
The only bowl game to look at for best bets on Saturday, January 4th is the Bahamas Bowl. Buffalo and Liberty will face off against each other. Liberty opened as a -2.5 point favorite but are now three-point dogs on some books. The main reason for this is that their starting quarterback, Kaidon Salter, will be out. How will Liberty hold up with backup Ryan Burger?
Liberty finished 8-3 straight up this year but only 3-8 against the spread (ATS). Their offense averaged 30 points per game, 175 passing yards, and 258 rushing yards. Their defense allowed an average of 23 points per game, 201 passing yards, and 148 rushing yards. Liberty hasn’t been an underdog since back on October 1st when they played Oregon and lost 45-6. They lost their last game to Sam Houston State 20-18.
Buffalo finished 8-4 straight up and 7-5 ATS. Their offense averaged 29 points per game, 190 passing yards, and 164 rushing yards. Their defense struggled this year, allowing opponents to score 28 points per game, 258 passing yards, and 145 rushing yards. Buffalo has won four straight games and covered in all of those but one. They also won three games as dogs.
Liberty hasn’t traveled well all year. They went 1-4 ATS on the road. Now they face Buffalo without their starting quarterback who also helped them in the run game. The dynamic of their offense will have shifted and I don’t think they’ll be able to keep up with Buffalo.
Bowl Games Best Bets: Buffalo (-2.5) – I would have picked them even if Liberty was playing whole. I think Buffalo is the better team overall.
