The winner of tomorrow’s Sugar Bowl matchup between the #7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the #2 Georgia Bulldogs gets a date with the #6 Penn State Nittany Lions in the Orange Bowl on January 9th. This quarterfinal matchup is similar to others, where the higher-ranked team is actually the underdog heading into the game.
And in this case, I’m going with the favorite – Notre Dame – on the spread as my best bet for Thursday. The Fighting Irish’s only slip-up this season was a two-point loss to Northern Illinois in Week 2 – since then they’ve been cruising.
I tend to rely on advanced stats to make my own spreads for these games, and the numbers say Notre Dame should be favored by four points tomorrow. The Fighting Irish on the spread is where the value is.
