Frisco Bowl: Memphis Tigers vs. West Virginia Mountaineers
While we only have one bowl game today, that doesn’t keep us from picking a winner for today! The Frisco Bowl kicks off bowl season tonight as the Memphis Tigers take on the West Virginia Mountaineers. The 10-2 Tigers are ranked 25th while the 6-6 Mountaineers had a rough season and are not ranked. However, they made a bowl game, and sometimes that’s good enough!
The Tigers are six-point favorites on most books, though if you like them to win you can find them at five-and-a-half on others. The total for the game is 60.5 points. Despite winning ten games, Memphis only covered six of those. West Virginia may have only won six games, but they covered five of those.
West Virginia has been underdogs in the last eight games and covered in half of those. After being favored in many games this season, Memphis had trouble covering. Beating teams like North Texas, Charlotte, and UTSA, but failing to cover against them. They made the bowl by upsetting Tulane however, when they were 13-point underdogs.
West Virginia’s strength on offense is running the ball (195 yards a game average) and Memphis’ strength on defense is stopping the run (allowing 100 yards a game on average). If Memphis can slow the Mountaineer’s rushing attack, can they beat them in the air? In reverse, my concern is that West Virginia can’t stop Memphis in the air. West Virginia is allowing 9.4 yards per pass play.
Today’s Bowl Games Best Bets: Memphis (-5.5) – Memphis proves they deserve the record despite not covering enough games.
